Local outcomes for Littles mentored by Bigs are impressive:

  • 82% showed improved self-confidence
  • 79.8% were better able to express their feelings
  • 66.3% developed better decision-making skills
  • 63.1% improved their academic performance

On a national level, documentation provided in 2007 by our parent organization cites the following impacts on children with either a Big Sister or Big Brother:

Traditional Community-Based Mentoring
(one-to-one relationships that spend 3-4 hours together per meeting in a community setting):

  • 83% of parents reported improved self-confidence
  • 69% of parents reported improved sense of the future
  • 68% of mentors reported improved decision-making skills
  • 77% of mentors reported improved ability to express feelings

School-Based Mentoring
(one-to-one relationships that meet a minimum of one hour per week on site at the school):

  • 69% of teachers reported improved grades in at least one subject
  • 77% of teachers reported improvement in self-confidence
  • 65% of teachers reported improvement in attitude toward school
  • 86% of mentors reported improvement in self-confidence
  • 76% of mentors reported improvement in Littles’ relationships with peers
