Rameka and Georgina

Rameka has been with Big Sisters of Rhode Island since May of 2002 and has been matched with three different adolescent Little Sisters.
 
She was matched with Georgina, a fifteen-year-old girl in the Providence area, in January of 2007 and they just celebrated their two year anniversary. Since the beginning, Rameka stated they clicked right away. Rameka being an educator has aggressively worked with Georgina on her academics. Rameka inspired her and taught her the importance of education – with Rameka’s help and encouragement Georgina has gotten her GED and has enrolled at CCRI.

Their relationship has really blossomed and they have formed a mutual, respectful, fun relationship with one another. The Little Sister’s mom feels that the Georgina has gone through a lot and it has been wonderful for her to have Rameka in her life. She thinks Rameka has been a great mentor for her daughter.

Rameka has also stated that she has seen so many positive changes in her Little Sister’s life. One of the most noticeable changes is her improved relationship building skills; she has learned to listen, respect, compromise and agree to disagree.

Rameka in many ways has become an excellent Life Coach for Georgina. Now she is helping Georgina value herself and determine what she should be looking for in a boyfriend.

They have a very nice relationship and Rameka and her Little Sister look forward to each visit. Rameka is very proud of her Little Sister.
