Host/Sponsor an Activity

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ocean State provides a free monthly activity open to all matches. Most often these are group activities. There are a number of ways your workplace can get involved:

  • Teach or share a skill: Are there employees with special skills and talents that they would like to teach or present to a group of Bigs and Littles? In the past, we’ve had volunteers show our Bigs and Littles how to make jewelry, hand-printed t-shirts, and stained glass.
  • Create an activity: Many employee groups like to plan an activity, like a special tour of their workplace. This is great for employee groups because it allows more employees to get involved in the planning and execution. It’s rewarding for Bigs and Littles because the girls are exposed to different careers.
  • Sponsor an activity: Certain major activities are scheduled each year on our calendar, such as the annual holiday party in December and the Graduation/End of School Year Party in June, for which we seek sponsors. The agency also welcomes the opportunity to create new activities, where a company can match its interests to a sponsorship and involve employees in planning and execution. For instance, Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island employees worked with our agency to create a Day of Health and Beauty for Bigs and Littles at the Marriott, which the company generously sponsored. Blue Cross's employee volunteer group, the Blue Angels, participated in presenting and supporting the activities that day.
